Overview
The NEW Transportation Regulation Bureau is divided into 3 areas: the Applications Unit, the Compliance Unit and the Inspections & Investigations Unit:
Effective July 1, 2024
Transportation Division operations (with the exception of the Pipeline Safety Bureau) will transfer to the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT)
For complaints, please call our Compliance Unit at 505-827-4519.
How do I submit my annual report?
Annual reports can be submitted to: TRB.AnnualReport@dot.nm.gov
Reminder: annual reports are due every year by March 1st. If you have not already submitted your annual report for calendar year 2024, please submit one as soon as possible.
The Applications Unit processes applications for authorities to operate as a regulated motor carrier in the state. Everyone providing compensated transportation services in New Mexico must receive an operating authority from the NMDOT, including limousines, taxis, shuttle services, tour and sightseeing operators, household goods moving companies, non-emergency medical transport carriers, transportation network companies (i.e. Uber, Lyft), and towing services. This area also administers the Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) system.
The Compliance Unit ensures compliance with the DOT’s financial responsibility requirements and annual reporting requirements. The Bureau processes forms, updates the DOT’s eDocket system, reviews tariff submissions and processes complaints on motor carriers received through the online complaint form.
The Inspections & Investigations Unit enforces the DOT’s Motor Carrier Regulations and the Motor Carrier Act. The Bureau conducts inspections of all regulated motor carriers and investigates non-compliance matters, safety concerns and complaints. The Investigations Unit may present the results of its inspections and investigations and ask that the NMDOT impose a fine or penalty on a motor carrier, and suspend or revoke its operating authority.
