Overview

The NMDOT paid Internship Program provides opportunities for high school students, recent high school graduates, college undergraduate students, and graduate school students to gain valuable public service work experience, critical knowledge and skills, exposure to the wide range of career paths at NMDOT, and a head start in the career of their choice.  The NMDOT Internship Program is year-round, but available internship positions at any particular time can vary.  Please check back here regularly for the newest listings.

Nature of Work

An NMDOT paid internship is a temporary position that can relate to a student’s areas of interest or major and support the student’s career goals.  Potential areas of focus for NMDOT internships include:

Pay increases are available each Calendar Year an intern participates in the Internship Program.

Refer to the tables below for Calendar Year 2024 pay rate details:

High School Interns (Pay Band 35)

Enrolled HS students
Students (16 years old or over) currently enrolled in High School curriculum or GED/HiSET education program.

Calendar Year 1: $18.05/hr

Calendar Year 2: $18.45/hr

Calendar Year 3: $18.85/hr

Graduated HS students
Students graduated from High School or who successfully completed GED or HiSET within the last two (2) years.

Calendar Year 1: $19.25/hr

Calendar Year 2: $19.65/hr

College Undergraduate Interns (Pay Band 55)

Students currently enrolled in an accredited college or university or who have completed at least four semesters (or equivalent) at an accredited college or university within the last two (2) years.

Calendar Year 1: $21.05/hr

Calendar Year 2: $21.75/hr

Calendar Year 3: $22.45/hr

Calendar Year 4: $23.15/hr

Graduate School Interns (Pay Band 60)

Students currently enrolled in a Graduate School Program at an accredited college or university or who have completed at least two semesters (or equivalent) of a graduate level program at an accredited college or university within the last two (2) years.

Calendar Year 1: $24.25/hr

Calendar Year 2: $25.00/hr

Calendar Year 3: $25.75/hr

Calendar Year 4: $26.50/hr

Internship Opportunities Listing

Internships involve students working in professional settings

under the supervision and guidance of practicing professionals.  Depending on the school program in which they are enrolled, student interns may be eligible to receive academic credit for performing the internship.
