On behalf of the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT)

we want to reassure our community that the resignation of Cabinet Secretary Serna does not delay or alter plans to raise the rails at the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge.

This project remains a top priority for NMDOT.

Our team is working toward completing the design by July 2026. Once design is finalized, the project will be bid, a contract will be awarded, and construction will begin.

The railing project is currently in the design phase, and $5 million has been allocated from our Fiscal Year 27 operational budget to complete the work.

Simultaneously, NMDOT is seeking Capital Outlay legislative funding for this project.

We remain committed to ensuring the rails are raised at the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge.
