NM 333/217 Intersection Improvement Project – CN A312290

NM 333/217 Intersection Improvement Project – CN A312290

PROJECT OVERVIEW

In conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration, the New Mexico Department of Transportation is planning an intersection improvement project at NM 333 and NM 217, just south of Interstate 40 in Tijeras.

The intersection currently experiences traffic flow issues and frequent motor vehicle crashes.

In early 2025, NMDOT analyzed the intersection to identify ways to improve safety and traffic flow. Several potential alternatives were analyzed for their ability to improve the traffic operation and safety of the intersection. Alternatives that were analyzed included signage improvements, signalization of the intersection, and implementation of a roundabout

While all of the options could help, analysis indicated that implementing a roundabout provided the greatest level of improvement. As such the NMDOT is interested in developing a roundabout at the intersection of NM 333 and NM 217.
