Increased traffic expected during International Balloon Fiesta
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) would like to remind all motorists there will be increased traffic volumes throughout the city during the 2025 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, scheduled for October 4–12.
To reduce potential delays, the I-25 Improved project will maintain three lanes of traffic in both directions during the event. Motorists are reminded that I-25 between Comanche Road and Montgomery Boulevard remains an active construction zone, with lanes shifted to the outside.
For local travel:
- Comanche Road at I-25: One lane remains open in each direction.
- Montgomery Boulevard at I-25: Lanes are shifted, with three lanes open westbound and two lanes open eastbound.
Given the anticipated influx of visitors, NMDOT encourages drivers to plan, allow additional travel time, and exercise caution when traveling to the Balloon Fiesta or through the Albuquerque area.
