Overview

“The Traffic Safety Division (TSD) advances roadway safety initiates with its partners across the state. Programs with the TSD funds, monitors, and implements diverse projects and programs to eliminate roadway fatalities and injuries on New Mexico’s roadways.

  • The Alcohol-Impaired Driving Program that implements DWI enforcement and intervention efforts along with awareness and prevention activities.
  • The Occupant Protection Program works to achieve high rates of use of car seats and seat belts by distributing child safety seats, supporting fitting stations, and holding inspection clinics.
  • The Police Traffic Services Program provides overtime funds to local law enforcement agencies for traffic safety enforcement in high-risk areas across the State in addition to providing trainings, education, technical support, and equipment.
  • The Motorcycle Safety Program assists motorcyclists in obtaining critical training and licensure to reduce the number of motorcyclist fatalities and injuries.
  • The Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety Program aims to reduce pedestrian and bicyclist fatalities and injuries through education and outreach to pedestrians and drivers.
  • The Driver Education and Safety Program is a cross-cutting program, including supporting driver education, DWI schools, and disseminating information on traffic safety initiatives including impaired driving, occupant protection, pedestrian motorcycle and bicyclists safety, distracted driving, and underage drinking enforcement prevention and education.
