Public input for defining our state’s visual identity
SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) invites residents to contribute to a visionary Statewide Aesthetics Plan that will shape the visual character of our roadways for generations to come.
This comprehensive initiative will establish design guidelines for bridges, interchanges, sound walls, rest areas, and landscaping throughout New Mexico’s highway system. Your perspective is valuable in ensuring these elements authentically reflect our state’s unique character.
“The aesthetic treatments we implement are powerful expressions of New Mexico’s extraordinary cultural heritage, diverse ecosystems, and rich history,” said John Busemeyer, NMDOT representative. “These thoughtful design elements help preserve the breathtaking scenic vistas that define the New Mexico travel experience.”
NMDOT is currently working on a guide for aesthetic treatments on New Mexico’s roadways and roadway structures. This helps the NMDOT support the careful preservation of scenic vistas viewed by motorists driving through New Mexico. The art treatments are a valuable tool for integrating New Mexico’s rich history, cultures, and ecologies into the state’s roadways and roadway structures.
By participating in this public input process, you’ll help NMDOT create roadway infrastructure that:
- Honors our multicultural traditions
- Celebrates our distinctive natural landscapes
- Enhances the travel experience for residents and visitors
- Creates a sense of place that says “New Mexico”
How to participate: Complete the brief survey by clicking here before March 31.
