The August–January 2025 edition of "¿Qué Pasa?", the NMDOT employee newsletter, highlights several key developments

I-25 Improved Project: NMDOT has initiated the I-25 Improved: Comanche to Montgomery project, a $268 million endeavor aimed at enhancing safety and reducing congestion in Albuquerque. Scheduled for completion by Spring 2027, the project includes adding a southbound lane, constructing new bridges, implementing “Texas U-turns,” and creating barrier-separated paths for pedestrians and cyclists.

Snowplow Naming Contest Winners: The winners of the 2025 Name a Snowplow contest have been announced, featuring creative names such as “Snow Bueno, Snow Way, José!” and “Alice Scooper.” These uniquely named snowplows will be operational across various districts in New Mexico.

Rural Air Service Enhancement Grant: NMDOT has funded a $1.4 million grant to support seasonal commercial flights between Albuquerque and Angel Fire. Launched on December 19, 2024, by Advanced Air, this service aims to boost tourism and provide residents with affordable travel options, with flights starting at $81.

Federal Grants Acquisition: The department has secured $62 million in federal grants to enhance safety, improve efficiency, and support sustainable practices. This includes a $30.4 million INFRA grant for safety and freight efficiency improvements on I-40 over Rio Puerco in McKinley County.

Additionally, NMDOT expresses solidarity with firefighters battling California wildfires, particularly in Los Angeles, extending thoughts and support to all affected.
