ALBUQUERQUE – The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT), in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, is excited to announce the commencement of a vital study for the extension of Paseo del Volcan (PDV).
NMDOT seeks public input to promote the success of this project. Residents and stakeholders within the study area are encouraged to share their thoughts and participate in shaping the future of this essential infrastructure project.
NMDOT has launched a brief questionnaire to gather public input. Community members can participate by completing the survey online at www.dot.nm.gov/projects/paseo-del-volcan. Hard copies are available at the Bulk Water Fill Station located at 21st Street NW and Northern Boulevard. Alternatively, individuals can request a mailed copy by contacting the project team via phone or email.
Please complete your surveys by July 14, 2024. Following the completion of the questionnaire, a public meeting will be held in late summer to discuss the findings and gather further input. A notice will be distributed once the meeting date is finalized.
About the Project
This extension will span 7.5 miles, stretching south from Rainbow Blvd. to Southern Blvd. This extension aims to improve transportation infrastructure, promote regional connectivity, and support the growing needs of the community.
The primary objective of this study is to determine the optimal configuration and alignment for the proposed roadway. Previous studies have suggested a two-lane roadway, featuring 12-foot driving lanes and eight-foot shoulders, consistent with the existing segment of PDV east of Unser Blvd. The right-of-way for PDV, identified by a previous study, has largely been secured, with most parcels already acquired.
