NMDOT to Improve the Route 66 Corridor in Gallup and Surrounding Area

The public is invited to attend an online Public Input Meeting on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023

GALLUP, N.M. – The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) invites you to attend an online Public Input Meeting on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023, at 6 p.m. MST to learn about the ongoing Route 66 (NM 118) Corridor Study and provide feedback. The online Public Input Meeting will begin with an introduction to the study followed by a presentation on the initial alternatives that have been identified by the project team. A Q&A session will follow, offering the public an opportunity to ask questions and provide input.

To register for the online Public Input Meeting, visit route66improved.com. Once registered, a confirmation email will be provided detailing how to join the event using Zoom or by telephone.

The Route 66 Corridor Study includes analyzing Route 66 between Rehoboth Drive and just west of Defiance Draw Road in the Gallup area to identify possible safety improvements.

“This study is focused on improving safety in the Gallup area along the Route 66 corridor. We are excited as some very interesting ideas have been identified. The study could lead to significant projects in the Gallup area, and we encourage everyone to participate in the study process,” Lisa Vega, District 6 Engineer stated.

After the online Public Input Meeting, NMDOT will hold a comment period from Feb. 9 through March 10, 2023, to allow the public to provide feedback on the study and identified alternatives. During this comment period, the public can submit questions or feedback in any of the following ways:

  • Mail in a comment form that can be found at route66improved.com or at the NMDOT District 6 Office. Comment forms can be mailed to:

If you are not able to attend the online Public Input Meeting, the information and recorded presentation will be posted on the study website immediately afterward.
