Project Overview

WORK ON NM 213 and NM 404 INCLUDES:

  • Reconstruction and widening of NM 213 as a four-lane divided highway with frontage roads from the Texas state line to milepost 2.21.
  • Reconstruction of NM 404 from Milepost 8.813 to Milepost 8.9 at the intersection of NM 404 and NM 213.
  • New bridge construction and new bypass lanes for local traffic.
  • 65-mile-per-hour ramps for both north-to-west and east-to-south traffic at the new intersection of NM 213 and NM 404.
  • A new diamond interchange at NM 213 and County Road A74.

CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS

CREWS TO CONTINUE WORKING ON WEST SIDE OF NM 213 AND INSIDE LANES OF NM 404 WEST OF ROUNDABOUT

Construction is continuing on reconstruction of and improvements to  NM 404 and NM 213 from the roundabout to near the Texas state line. Crews will continue to implement temporary flagging and mobile traffic control as needed.

Traffic Impacts

Weeks of October 26-30, 2026:

  • Crews will push eastbound and westbound traffic on NM 404 to the inside lanes about a mile west of the roundabout. There will only be one lane of traffic open in each direction (eastbound and westbound) west of the roundabout for about four months, through about February 2027, as crews work on Phase one of construction.
  • Crews are continuing installation of fencing and guardrails. as well as preparing for new bridge construction and MSE (mechanically stabilized earth) walls.

NOTE: The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph throughout the construction zone for the safety of traveling motorists.
