Application deadline is Friday, August 21
SANTA FE — High school juniors and seniors who want to lead environmental change in their communities can apply for the Land of Enchantment Young Ambassador Program for the 2026–2027 school year.
Selected Ambassadors will receive a $3,000 participation stipend upon completion of the fellowship and projects. Throughout the year, Ambassadors will receive training in project management, community leadership and gain hands-on experience developing and implementing environmental initiatives in their communities.
Ambassadors serve as youth leaders who educate and empower their communities to reduce litter and promote environmental stewardship. The Young Ambassador Program supports the Governor’s goal of cleaning New Mexico and enhancing the natural beauty of our state by mobilizing youth to lead meaningful, community-driven change.
The “Young Ambassadors” initiative is part of NMDOT’s “¡Qué Linda!” program and the Governor’s youth-focused #KeepLitterOut campaign, which empowers students to lead local beautification efforts across New Mexico.
Multiple youth will be selected from each of the six designated regional areas, which align with the NMDOT transportation districts. The selection committee is seeking applicants who demonstrate teamwork, leadership potential, a passion for environmental issues and an interest in enhancing the beauty of New Mexico.
“Students across New Mexico are demonstrating that their voices and actions can drive real change. The inaugural Young Ambassadors strengthened their communities and motivated others to get involved,” said Special Director, Amy Whitfield. “We look forward to empowering more young leaders in the year ahead.”
The deadline to apply is Friday, August 21. For more information or to submit an application, please visit www.keeplitterout.nm.gov/young-ambassador-sign-up/
