Improvements include intersection lighting

OTERO COUNTY – The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) is pleased to announce the successful completion of the $6.18 million highway safety improvement project on US 54 from approximately milepost 2 to milepost 6 (north of the Texas State line).

The US 54 project began in March of 2025 and wrapped up last week. Final step for completion included the installation of the meter box and activation of the lights.

Safety improvements include widening the portion of US 54 at the intersection of Angelina Boulevard to add acceleration and deceleration lanes, installing lighting, and adding permanent signage and roadway striping. These improvements are designed to enhance traffic flow and increase safety in the area.

Constructors, Inc., was contracted to complete the work and finished ahead of schedule.

NMDOT thanks the traveling public for their patience and support throughout the duration of the project.
