Beginning Dec. 4, lane closures on both the eastbound and westbound lanes on NM 549
DEMING – The New Mexico Department of Transportation District One office in cooperation with Mountain States Constructors, Inc. (Contractor) are excited to announce the upcoming roadway rehabilitation project on NM 549 from milepost 18 (Akela) to milepost 22.
Beginning Monday, December 4, 2023, drivers can expect lane closures on both the eastbound and westbound lanes of NM 549 as needed. A pilot car operation will be in place, please reduce your speed and obey traffic control devices. Roadway will be restricted to 12-foot for oversized loads.
The contractor’s hours of operation will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the possibility of some weekend work. This rehabilitation project was awarded in the amount of $10 million and is expected to be complete by March 2024, weather pending.
“I am excited about this roadway project in one of our smaller communities, it will benefit their roadways, it is a huge economic stimulus, and it provides jobs to our local citizens,” said District Engineer Aaron Chavarria.
