OPEN HOUSE for the Texico-Farwell Railroad Bridge Project

May 9 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), in partnership with the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT), invites you to join us for an open house on May 9th. During the open house, we will display a new bridge design for the Farwell-Texico Bridge Project. This new design is being brought to the public as we have listened to and heard the communities’ concerns about developing a design with reduced impacts.

At this open house, the public will have the opportunity to view the previous bridge design from February 2024, which spans the state line, and the new bridge design alignment which will be encompassed primarily in Texico, New Mexico but is expected to reduce impacts to the community businesses by staying south of the existing BNSF railroad tracks with a new roadway. The bridge would be located west of South Curry Rd. C within the Texico city limits and would utilize an elevated intersection-style bridge.
The new bridge option being presented proposes the elimination of three existing at-grade (surface) crossings. The construction of this bridge would span the existing railroad line and allow the traveling public to experience continuous traffic flow without train delays.

At this time, both agencies, are seeking input to see if the new bridge design will solve concerns for the communities. Stakeholder meetings are being conducted up till the time of the public meeting. Affected property owners are also being contacted. The comments and input received at this public meeting and at the end of the public comment period, will determine the timeline for the next public meeting or hearing.
The public is encouraged to participate and provide feedback about the proposed bridge designs, which will be available on the meeting website beginning Thursday, May 9, 2024. You will also find information on how to provide your feedback in the TXDOT Event page below.
