SUMMARY:REQUEST FOR INPUT - Roadway & Drainage Improvements on NM 532 (Ski Run Road)
DESCRIPTION:The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) is preparing vital improvements to a key section of Ski Run Road (NM 532)\, near Forest Service Road 127A—enhancing safety and ensuring long-term access for all who travel this scenic mountain route.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Why This Project Matters\n NM 532 is the only access road to popular destinations like Ski Apache\, Oak Grove and Eagle Lake Campgrounds\, North Cedar Creek Trailhead\, and severalForest Service areas. With thousands of recreational visitors each year\, keeping this road safe and functional is a top priority. Unfortunately\, the stretch between mileposts 2.25 and 2.8 has become increasingly vulnerable due to: \n\nBurn scars from the South Fork Fire\nUndersized drainage pipes that can’t handle heavy water flow\nRecent extreme weather that’s led to erosion and frequent roadway damage\n\nStormwater often overwhelms the existing pipes\, spilling over the road and causing serious erosion\, posing risks to both travelers and the road’s long-termintegrity. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n What’s Coming\n NMDOT and its project team are designing a safer\, more resilient roadway with significant improvements to the drainage system. Key features include: \n\nUpgraded drainage structures to better handle storm runoff\nRoadway improvements to support long-term safety and durability\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Stay Informed or Share Your InputConstruction is scheduled to begin April 1\, 2026 and is expected to wrap up in Summer 2026. During the work\, expect one-lane closures managed by mobile traffic systems. \nWe want to hear from you!\nFor more information or to share your thoughts:\nContact: Gamaliel Zepeda\nEmail: Gamaliel.Zepeda@dot.nm.gov
